MACC mulls seizing Muhyiddin's son-in-law's overseas assets

MACC is in the process of identifying overseas assets belonging to Muhyiddin Yassin’s son-in-law, Adlan Berhan, in a plan to freeze them.

MACC deputy chief commissioner (Operation) Ahmad Khusairi Yahaya said these assets are believed to be funding Adlan’s (above) lifestyle in the Middle East - after his assets in Malaysia having been frozen.

"All his assets in Malaysia, including his bank accounts, have already been frozen by the MACC in connection with the ongoing investigation against him,” New Straits Times reported Khusairi as saying today.

On Oct 23, MACC chief commissioner Azam Baki claimed that the fugitive businessperson is living in luxury despite being on the run.

Azam added that Adlan has has been traveling from unspecified Middle Eastern countries to go on holidays, including to Thailand, where he reportedly played golf and went to a shooting range.

Previously, Azam said Adlan was residing in a Middle Eastern country with which Malaysia does not have an extradition treaty.

Adlan and his lawyer Mansoor Saat are wanted by the authorities over alleged criminal breach charges, related to the National Enforcement and Registration (Biometrics) System (NERS), which was financed through a RM595 million sukuk facility.

Adlan, through his lawyer, had in August 2023 denied being on the run from the law. He claimed to have left the country on business and promised to return to Malaysia if there were no elements of “threats and persecution”.

Last month, MACC came under criticism after Azam said the agency had just submitted a request to cancel Adlan's passport, two years after he was placed on its wanted list. - Mkini
