Nazir Razak, KJ, Ambiga, Sheila Majid oppose Wisma Damansara project

NEARLY 300 Bukit Damansara residents, joined by prominent figures including singer Sheila Majid, former CIMB chairman Tan Sri Nazir Razak, former minister Khairy Jamaluddin or KJ, and activist Ambiga Sreenevasan, staged a protest against the planned redevelopment of Wisma Damansara into two 60-storey towers.

Carrying placards reading “Save Bukit Damansara” and “No to Skyscrapers”, residents argued the project would overwhelm Jalan Semantan with traffic, strain infrastructure, and erode the neighbourhood’s character.

Nazir labelled the proposal “monstrous”, while Sheila, a resident since the 1970s, lamented the loss of greenery and peace. Sheila, who has lived there since the 1970s, said Bukit Damansara was once a peaceful, green haven.

Khairy questioned whether Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) had conducted a traffic impact study, warning against turning the area into “another KLCC”.

Segambut MP Hannah Yeoh also objected, urging DBKL to respect the Kuala Lumpur Local Plan 2040. Residents criticised the 1:9.6 plot ratio approval, far above the 1:6 cap, calling the project unsustainable and a threat to their quality of life. —  Focus Malaysia
