PARLIAMENT | Not all Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) Aerotrain's issues have been caused by system failures, as there have been those caused by passengers, the Dewan Rakyat heard today.
Deputy Transport Minister Hasbi Habibollah gave an example of passengers who forced open the train's doors.
"There are officers placed on the trains - technicians to ensure that if anything happens, (services) can continue and (the train can be) repaired immediately," Hasbi said, in response to Khairil Nizam Khirudin (PN-Jerantut).
The Aerotrain had been suspended for 28 months due to a rehaul that saw the replacement of its ageing fleet and infrastructure under MAHB’s RM742 million Airport Regeneration Plan.
Since its relaunch on July 1, the Aerotrain has experienced issues 19 times up to Sept 30.

The Aerotrain resumed its 24-hour services on Sept 3 following maintenance works completed between Aug 18 and 31.
Commenting further, Hasbi (GRS-Limbang) said the original equipment manufacturer (OEM), Alstom, faces penalties of up to RM190,000 per month if it does not fulfil the Aerotrain's operational conditions.
"The OEM must ensure that the availability of the train is at 100 percent for the operations of one train and 99.5 percent for two trains to operate," he explained.
He said this was to ensure the train's operations remain at high levels. - Mkini
