Anwar cancels Pahang trip due to back pain, doctors recommend rest

Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim cancelled his trip to Pahang at the last minute today after receiving medical advice to rest.

A statement from the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) said Anwar had been experiencing back pain that limited his mobility.

“The prime minister has been advised by doctors to get adequate rest.

“The prime minister sincerely apologises, especially to the people of Pahang who had prepared to welcome his presence,” the PMO added.

The 78-year-old had just returned from the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (Apec) Summit in South Korea last night.

Anwar flew there on Oct 30 after attending Parliament, one day after the Asean summit concluded.

He was scheduled to attend three events in Pahang today:

  • The closing ceremony for the Hawker and Small Traders Day Carnival in Lurah Semantan, Temerloh, at 10am

  • A programme at Universiti Malaysia Pahang Al-Sultan Abdullah at 12.30pm, and

  • A casual session with Kuantan industry drivers at 3.15pm at the Advance Technology College Manpower Department Kuantan campus. - Mkini
