PKR’s Nabil Halimi apologises for his remarks, while PAS leader Ahmad Fadhli Shaari agrees to withdraw the suit.

In a joint statement, Fadhli and Nabil said they reached the agreement at the Shah Alam High Court today to end the dispute and focus on more important matters, particularly those concerning the interests of the people and the country.
According to the statement, the settlement was reached without any admission of liability, with Nabil apologising to Fadhli over the remarks that sparked the dispute between them.
“This step was taken with the intention of bringing the dispute to an amicable conclusion and allowing both parties to move forward,” they said in the statement.
Fadhli agreed to withdraw the suit after the court recorded the mutually agreed terms of the agreement.
Fadhli was represented by lawyers Mardhiyyah Johari and Ahmad Amzar Ahmad Azlan, while Nabil was represented by Khairul Naim Rafidi and Asyraaf Abu Bakar Hamzah.
Last year, Fadhli threatened a RM1 million defamation suit against Nabil over remarks the latter had made concerning a social media post by the PAS leader.
The post featured a cartoon which appeared to belittle Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim’s role in mediating the Thailand-Cambodia conflict.
The cartoon, which was subsequently deleted, had depicted a monkey acting as a judge between a goat and a sheep fighting over bananas. It carried the caption: “The goat and sheep shouldn’t need a monkey to mediate their banana dispute.”
Nabil had criticised Fadhli for refusing to apologise over the caricature, saying the PAS leader’s behaviour was arrogant and unbecoming of a politician, and had tarnished the country’s image internationally. - FMT
