PETALING JAYA: Some 100 members from PPBM’s Klang division headed by the party’s policy and strategy bureau chairman Rais Hussin yesterday announced they were crossing over to Umno, saying they were disappointed with Pakatan Harapan’s (PH) decision to name Dr Mahathir Mohamad as its prime ministerial candidate.
Led by Mohd Hazwan Zulkifly, they also accused PPBM of cronyism, and said they had no confidence in the opposition ruling at the federal level due to what they claimed were failures to address issues in Selangor.
Rais in an immediate reaction said he was not surprised by the announcement, describing it as “typical” and “desperate”.
“We are reaching the end of our journey towards the 14th general election and there will be many more media announcements to betray PPBM,” said Rais, adding that disgruntled members would use pro-Umno non-government organisations as their platforms.
He said those who left the party had not shown their commitment “from day one”
Rais added that the division had done all it could to assimilate members into the party’s struggle but failed.
“The main reason is that they have a certain agenda and only they would know it,” he said.-FMT
