KUALA LUMPUR: In its preparations to face the 14th General Election, Barisan Nasional has launched a web portal to further reach the public.
The portal therakyat.com launched on Wednesday night, will be the "catalyst and the voice" of Barisan's aspiration to retain its position as the ruling coalition.
It will also be the official portal for Barisan in response to the challenges posed by the new media, which is seen as the key player in the upcoming polls.
In launching the portal, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak said that Barisan has realised that social media has become the primary source of information for the people and as such more needs to be done to counter "fake news" circulated online.
"We need a platform to connect with the people while providing them accurate and fast news.
"This portal will provide the truth to the people," he said at the launch.
Also present were Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, Barisan component party leaders such as MCA president Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai, deputy president Datuk Seri Wee Ka Siong, MIC president Datuk Seri Dr S. Subramaniam, Gerakan president Datuk Seri Mah Siew Keong and others.
The web portal is a continuity of the existing bulletin e-rakyat since it was launched by Najib in March last year.
The portal which contains several interactive segments with information suitable for all voters, will also feature information on Barisan's candidate in the upcoming polls.
It will also feature one-on-one interviews with Barisan leaders in a programme called Bicara 4 Mata which will also explain the coalition's manifesto for the elections.
'Bicara 4 Mata' will also be aired on RTM at 9.30pm and TV3 at 11pm every alternate Wednesdays.
The maiden show will be a one-on-one interview with Najib, which was aired on Wednesday (Jan 3) in conjunction with the launch and will be aired again on Jan 17 and 31, Feb 14 and 28, March 14 and 28, April 11 and 25 and May 9.
There will also be 'Buletin eRakyat' which is available in six languages such as Bahasa Malaysia, Chinese, Tamil, Iban, and Kadazan Dusun.-.thestar
