cakap cakap...Malaysia Hari Ini


When I bought my van on the 1st of November 2016 diesel pump price for Euro 5 was at RM1.79 today on the 9th of January 2018 14 months after, the pump price is at Rm2.42 an increase of nearly 35%. And if you think i am happy with that you are a bigger idiot than I think!😡😡😡

Hor Sher Li Malaysia subsidize oil prices, which is a lot to be grateful for. It cannot do this forever. Overseas, pump prices are rm 6 equivalent.

Vincent Cheong Kam Weng Firstly I don't drive my car overseas and I get paid in RM. Secondly the international oil prices have not risen by anything more than 6% over the 14 months. Thirdly if not for the inept management of our finances we would still be able to enjoy petrol subsidies. Fourthly, the cost of living has increased dramatically since the introduction of the GST. Lastly do I see you smiling each time you pump petrol lately?

Hor Sher Li It’s messed up, but I have perspective on what it takes to be a truly developed system where the social welfare system allows 12 months maternity leave, free medical, free studies until university. It’s more expensive than you can imagine. It isn’t a perfect system here but it isn’t perfect there too. Half your income is taxed. Taxes are charged on wealth not just income. 25 percent VAT. In return you are well looked after. All I am saying is it’s perspective and a question of how we here move forward and the costs thereof. Something has got to give. We’re truly blessed with how money actually goes further here. Of course if the money is managed better and people would stop scamming the gomen/ rakyat money including internally and everyone recognizes the first step toward progress is that wages need to be equated, then we can start to progress. Our neighbors in Singapore have shown what it takes and what it results in (higher cost of living for higher standard).

Hor Sher Li I cringe at the petrol pump only because I don’t earn enough. I know though, that it’s subsidized and am grateful I am not paying the actual price. Now if only I can get a raise....

Vincent Cheong Kam Weng I'm just an illiterate, ignorant farmer who has to use my van to transport my produce to where I sell them and the rising cost of petrol is really making things difficult for small businesses to survive. I've no illusions about an Utopian state where citizens are taken care of from cradle to grave but for the sake of our children and theirs, I think a better management team should be given a chance to restore the country to normalcy.

Hor Sher Li But it’s not just gomen’s fault. Citizens are not realizing some initiatives that were fought that are important- we actually aren’t helping the situation. We need the hydro electricity for clean energy, the incinerator for burning rubbish to stop having landfills, the minimum wage, the unity in education. If in every well intended initiative we have strong responsible people running it successfully, and those who win contracts are appointed based on merit and truly delivers the project without trying to scam the gomen for rakyat’s money.... we citizens also need to take responsibility for helping the situation not relying always on police and enforcers. Someone in a post said if they ‘accidentally dropped ‘ a poppy seed into the ground and it grew, it’s not his fault.... one needs to think with this attitude how can a country place less resources on enforcement and direct focus on more projects for the people? I am not siding one or the other but to stop downward spiral both sides need to buck up, take responsibility. Scamming the gomen needs to stop, but also the gomen internally needs to think about young clean well-educated and responsible leadership. Trustworthiness and love for Malaysia, that is the winning team for me. And a realization by people about what it takes to move forward. Some changes are difficult but not unnecessary.

Vincent Cheong Kam Weng How in the world can we blame the citizens for scamming the government when it is the government who is the authority to select, award, evaluate and supervise the project from drafting to completion? Kinda like the doctor blaming the patient for being sick don't you think?

Hor Sher Li Nope. Being sick is not a conscious effort unless someone does it on purpose. Scamming is saying you will do something to a certain standard knowing you can’t and then don’t and then give some excuse for non deliverance or for more money and consciously botching numbers. Scamming is consciously inflating prices, and scamming is telling lies in a very conscious way. Conscious effort is the difference so the analogy of sickness doesn’t equate. It’s forward thinking and not acceptable to many, I have been told. But progress also means changes. Hope this is making sense. But I also understand if it doesn’t.

Vincent Cheong Kam Weng The CEO of any decent business entity should be able to attest to the fact he is responsible for all executive decisions made by the board of directors and it is his responsibility to scrutinise all dubious decisions and claims as he is well endowed with the power to hire and fire anyone who is guilty of dereliction of duty, so he cannot under whatever circumstances deny his duties and responsibilities by just assigning the blame to someone else can he?
