Court grants 6-day remand for businessman over Penang tunnel probe

A 59-year-old senior executive director of a company said to be involved in the proposed construction of the Penang undersea tunnel has been ordered to be remanded for six days by the Magistrate’s Court in Putrajaya.
This followed an application by the MACC to have the senior executive remanded for seven days.
However, according to lawyer Hamidi Mohd Noh, his client objected to MACC’s remand application as he had surrendered last night and assisted in investigations.
"I stressed that he is being remanded to assist investigations. He is innocent, " said Hamidi.
Nevertheless, magistrate Fatina Amyra Abdul Jalil issued the order for the remand.
Earlier it was reported that two individuals with "Datuk" titles have been arrested in connection with a corruption investigation linked to the Penang undersea tunnel project.
MACC deputy chief commissioner (operations) Azam Baki had said the arrests followed a major raid conducted on the island yesterday.
"Two Datuks arrested," Azam told Malaysiakini.
