Johor DAP publicity secretary Sheikh Omar Ali urged Defence Minister Hishammuddin Hussein to give him an assurance that army personnel will not be registered as voters at the yet to be built Paloh camp.
"I challenge the defence minister to give a written guarantee that BN will not, through the Election Commission (EC), make use of army personnel by transferring them to the yet-to-be-completed Paloh camp," Sheikh Omar said in a statement.
EC chief Mohd Hashim Abdullah (photo) had last Wednesday denied that voters had been transferred to the camp, which is in the early stages of construction, or that a new locality had been created for the future camp.
Sheikh Omar noted that while the EC chief denied that voters for the camp had been included in the fourth quarter electoral roll for 2017, he was concerned that this could still happen in the first quarter electoral roll of 2018.
The term of the current Parliament is due to end in June and the 14th general election must be called by August.
Johor DAP had previously also highlighted the case of 1,051 army personnel who were registered as voters at the yet-to-be-completed Segamat camp.
The Defence Ministry had claimed the personnel were living in the vicinity of the camp, which is expected to be completed soon.
Johor DAP's attempt to object the registration of voters at the incomplete Segamat camp was not accepted by the EC.- Mkini
