Guan Eng: MCMC raid on Nga an 'act of intimidation'

DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng has described the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission's (MCMC) raid on his party's MP in Taiping as 'arbitrary and an high-ended abuse of power'.
Condemning the act against the Perak DAP chief Nga Kor Ming, Lim pointed out that freedom from censorship was based on the Multimedia Super Corridor's International Bill of Rights which was guaranteed for all Malaysian Internet users.
The Penang chief minister also deemed the latest move by MCMC as an 'act of intimidation against DAP leaders'.
"They raided not only his service centre but his house as well, including his parents' house. Is that necessary? This is so serious," Lim said after handing over RM30,000 in aid to the Burma Road Tow Boo Kong temple committee in Georgetown today.
It is learnt that the raids were over social media postings by Nga (below) that allegedly disparaged the BN government.
Lim recalled the MCMC had yet to act against those who posted 'false accusations' against his son for allegedly molesting a female classmate seven years ago.
In February 2012, police reports were filed against three pro-Umno websites for defaming Lim's son with the allegations. The websites also claimed that Lim had paid certain quarters RM200,000 to cover up the case.

Lim said the molest incident was a lie which was proved when the perpetrators posted a photo of the so-called victim, an international chess player who had never been to Penang.
"That is why sometimes I am so angry with BN media when they print lies that hurt people.
“That is why I am very tough because they are completely immoral and do not have a single shred of self-respect or dignity whatsoever.
'They are not even human sometimes because they get the backing from the authorities," Lim said.
“As a father, I felt as if I failed to protect my own son then. You would only know this feeling when you have children on your own. Imagine the trauma he went through," Lim added.
He deemed MCMC a 'political weapon of BN' saying the commission was not an independent regulator.
"They are merely carrying out the wishes of their masters. We condemn their act on Nga and urge them to explain what they are trying to do," he said.- Mkini
