Selangor Menteri Besar Mohamed Azmin Ali today said that the issue of holding early state polls is "irrelevant" at this juncture with only a few months left before Parliament would be automatically dissolved.
"I am of the view that this issue is no longer relevant because the term would end in a few months.
"And, for sure, the proposal is illogical because it would create uncertainties among the rakyat, on the need to hold state polls now," Azmin told reporters after a meet-the-people session at Masjid Zakaria in Gombak.
Azmin said this in response to a reported proposal by political analyst Wong Chin Huat that it would be a "smart move" by the Selangor government to dissolve the state assembly ahead of the 14th general elections.
In making the proposal, Wong said such a move could potentially ward off the effects of the redelineation of electoral boundaries which critics had said would be in favour of Barisan Nasional.
