RM250K HOUSING SCAM IN SELANGOR: NOH OMAR WARNS LOW-COST HOMEBUYERS NOT TO BE DUPED

KUALA SELANGOR – More than 40 people have been cheated out of more than RM250,000 by scammers promising them housing under the Government’s People’s Housing Programme (PPR), says Tan Sri Noh Omar (pic).
The Urban Well-being, Housing and Local Government Minister said that unscrupulous individuals have been going around claiming that they have connections who can ensure applications are approved, even if the potential buyers do not qualify for PPR housing.
“These individuals approach their victims claiming that they know powerful people in the ministry or Umno who can get them PPR houses meant for low-income earners.
“Once the victims are convinced, they are told to fork out between RM2,000 and RM10,000 each for an application form, which is actually available for free.
Noh said they were alerted to the issue during a function presenting house keys to successful house buyers in Selangor recently.
“A few groups of victims approached us and told us about their plight.
“Many of them only realised they had been taken for a ride when they were not listed as successful applicants.
“Most of their applications were not even submitted, while some were rejected,” he said.
Noh said that application forms for all Government housing schemes such as PPR, MyHome, MyDeposit and PR1MA were free of charge.
He called on victims to lodge police reports, adding that the ministry would look into each case and assist victims to obtain PPR housing through proper channels.
