PETALING JAYA: Runway 3 at the KL International Airport (KLIA) has reopened.
It resumed normal operations at 3.30pm today, Malaysian Airport Holdings Berhad (MAHB) announced today.
In a posting on Facebook, it advised passengers to check the latest flight schedules with their airlines.
It said it was able to reopen Runway 3 “earlier than expected”.
“We thank the airport team for rectifying the situation promptly. We wish all passengers a pleasant journey,” MAHB added.
The runway was temporarily closed from 10.30am today to facilitate urgent maintenance work on the runway as part of safety procedures.
Details of the problem were not revealed.
MAHB had said KLIA had two other runways to sufficiently serve airline operations in the event of a temporary closure of one of its runways.
In an announcement, AirAsia told passengers that delays were to be expected because of the runway closure.
“Affected guests will be notified via their registered e-mail address and short message service (SMS) of their latest flight status and the options made available for them.
“Therefore, AirAsia would strongly encourage all guests to update their contact details at airasia.com to ensure that they are notified of any updates to their flights,” it said, adding that it will update all guests in a timely manner on any changes. -FMT
