SEREMBAN: The sponsor of a local football team, who was detained by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) earlier today to facilitate investigations into a corruption case, has been released on bail.
Negeri Sembilan MACC said in a statement that the 47-year-old man was detained at the agency’s office here at 2.30pm after he turned up to give his statement.
The suspect was alleged to have given a bribe of RM80 each to 18 players from opposing teams and RM100 each to seven officials, also from opposing teams, as an inducement to ensure the victory of his team in the south zone of Liga Bolasepak Rakyat on Nov 25 last year.
The suspect was released on RM5,000 bail in one surety, the statement said.
Prior to this, a football team’s head coach and a manager of a local football team in Negeri Sembilan were remanded five days beginning Jan 6 and 7 respectively to facilitate investigations by the MACC on the same case. -FMT
