YOURSAY | Dr M was PM under BN. If the opposition wins, he will be PM under Harapan.
Clever Voter: The joint team of Dr Mahathir Mohamad and Anwar Ibrahim could be a welcome return. It is a relief to many who are hoping for real change.
The significant difference between then and now would be their personal perspectives of how they view the world.
Despite the many negative views of Mahathir, it is expected he would place different priorities, and first and foremost - if he does get the chance - is to strengthen governance with the right people and proper controls.
It is hoped that Anwar will continue with a system that allows better access to all Malaysians, empowering many so that we can get back on track.
While there is much to do, for Mahathir this is going to be his final bash to put things right, and if he does succeed in the general election, the nation will be grateful.
Ib: When the country is in such trouble, not only with mounting debts but with race and religion played up to the hilt, and the looting by the politicians which continues with impunity, as shown by not one 1MDB deal but several rounds of siphoning, as well as SRC International, Mara, Felda and Bank Negara’s sudden land purchase, plus our credibility in tatters in the business world because of a massively corrupt government, we can no longer wait for a young leader to save the country.
Whoever is willing to put himself up on the firing line is welcomed as a hero. The best is they have stated clearly the country will have a maximum of two terms for future prime ministers.
Dont Just Talk: Seize the moment, Pakatan Harapan leaders. Stay united, stay focus and be humble while talking to Malaysian voters and we are sure that this time around, Putrajaya will be within their grasp.
Draw up the manifesto for the 14th general election as soon as possible, which should include ways to eradicate kleptocratic corruption to avoid another National Feedlot Corporation (NFC), Mara, Felda Global Ventures (FGV) and 1MDB financial scandals.
Please limit the prime minister’s post to two terms to avoid abuse of power and be magnanimous so that there is power-sharing amongst the four Harapan parties.
Above all, Harapan leaders must be seen to walk the talk, and lead by example, unlike the present BN party leaders.
Hopefully, GE14 will not be a repeat of GE13, when 51 percent of the popular vote remains the minority.
Anonymous 459: What a disaster. Harapkan Pakatan, Pakatan makan budi! What a shame to the reform activists as this is going back to bad old days... many of us remember the water cannons and FRU (riot police) trucks permanently parked at Jalan Tunku Abdul Rahman every weekend, the bashing by PDRM (Royal Malaysian Police) and severe beatings endured by Hindraf supporters.
If these Harapan leaders can do so, we can also turn our back and head back to BN as it is better to vote for the devil you know.
888: The current political scene - having two almost equally strong Malay race-based political parties squaring out against each other - gives the best opportunity for this country to move forward toward a better government, and also unintentionally give extra weightage to Chinese and Indian votes.
This is good for all.
Undecided: If Anwar can forgive Mahathir, others should be gracious enough to do so. It is so clear that we cannot allow Umno/BN under PM Najib Razak to continue with what has happened to 1MDB and Felda.
I am also sure it is not easy for Mahathir to say he is indebted to Anwar.
Vision2020: May the force always be with Mahathir and Anwar and bless them with good health and long life to lead the Harapan coalition to victory over the dark force of the corrupt MO1 (Malaysian Official 1) with his kleptocratic Umno party in the forthcoming GE14.
Anonymous 2413471460628504: History in the making indeed. Mahathir was a PM under BN. If the opposition wins, he will be PM under Harapan - the coalition which would have vanquished his old coalition.
Ipoh Pp: There must be something so very wrong with our country when a 92-year-old retiree has to come out to save us from going to the 'dogs'.
I hope the young people will realise the reason Mahathir is doing this. Not for his glory, I am sure. What more glory would he seek, especially when he has already climbed the 'mountain'. It’s for Malaysia and its people.
So, let’s stop all this infighting, put our hands together and save Malaysia.
Cocomomo: It is the voters who will finally determine whether they want change. Are they going to continue to vote for corrupt politicians? Are they going to happy with the peanuts in the form of BRIM (Bantuan Rakyat 1Malaysia) thrown to them?
Are they going to continue to be misled by racism and religious bigotry? Will enough of the voters really vote for change or just be dumb and continue with the devils they know?
Goldee: We can't wait to witness the greatest moment of our history - a change of government and the downfall of the BN government.
This current regime must be defeated at all costs in order to save our beloved country from the kleptocracy government.
Headhunter: Hopefully, this is the light at the end of the tunnel we're looking at. Failing which, the country will finally go to the dogs.
Lone_star: We have Mahathir and Anwar and all the other leaders of Harapan... but they alone cannot bring change!
Only the rakyat can. Are the rakyat up to it? Think carefully before GE14 and may the force and wisdom be with you on that fateful polling day, whenever it may be.- Mkini
