Zahid gives statement over racially charged comments


KUALA LUMPUR: Four out of the nine individuals called in over comments that allegedly sparked racial tensions, have had their statements recorded by police, said Tan Sri Mohamad Fuzi Harun.
The Inspector-General of Police said one of the four included former deputy prime minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi (pic).
Mohamad Fuzi added that Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department P. Waytha Moorthy, however, has not given his statement yet.
Mohamad Fuzi was speaking at the Royal Malaysian Police College at Cheras after attending the launch of two books Evidence and Charging along with Guidebook to Criminal Investigations Involving Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear, and Explosive agents (CBRNE).
The seven other individuals are Pertubuhan Jaringan Melayu Malaysia President Datuk Azwanddin Hamzah Ariffin Abu Bakar, blogger Ragvinder Singh Jess, G3 deputy president Amran Ahmad Nor, Tanah Rata assemblyman Chiong Yoke Kong, Tras assemblyman Chow Yu Hui, Lau Shan Thean and Muhamad Edi Mohamad Riyars, aka Edi Rejang.
The individuals were named by Deputy Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Noor Rashid Ibrahim in a press conference on Nov 23 at Bukit Aman.
He had said police viewed the recent statements issued by various parties that touched on religious and racial sentiments very seriously.
Noor Rashid added that the unrest was evident with over 160 police reports lodged recently.- Star
