Kelantan MB: Our sultan was never really interested in becoming Agong

Kelantan Menteri Besar Ahmad Yakob today said that state ruler Sultan Muhammad V was never really interested in becoming the Yang di-Pertuan Agong.
"Since the beginning, Tuanku was not really interested in becoming the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, that was the information (I got) at the time.
"He was not interested and when Sultan Muhammad V became Yang di-Pertuan Agong at the time, he also did not show interest.
"But he shouldered the responsibility when he became the king," he told journalists in Tumpat this evening.
Earlier today, Comptroller of the Royal Household Wan Ahmad Dahlan Ab Aziz announced that Sultan Muhammad V had resigned from his position as the Yang di-Pertuan Agong.
The Kelantan menteri besar said he accepted the decision as it is the sultan's prerogative.
"As the head of (Kelantan) government, I will discuss with the chief secretary of the state government on the protocol for the sultan's official departure as the Yang di-Pertuan Agong," he said.
Ahmad, who is also the Pasir Pekan assemblyperson, said Sultan Muhammad V had conducted his duties as the king well.
"I think there were no problems with the Agong's service, he did what was required as the Agong," he said. - Mkini
