PETALING JAYA: The Education Ministry has ordered a revision to a Year Three textbook to be made immediately after part of its content was deemed insensitive and gender-biased.
Deputy Education Minister Teo Nie Ching confirmed that she had met with the department in charge of national school textbook content.
She said the department had been ordered to make an immediate revision to the infographic in the Pendidikan Jasmani dan Kesihatan (Physical and Health Education) and textbook used by Year Three students.
She said that the meeting concluded that the infographic used went against the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child.
Teo added that the infographic was also gender-biased and the captions insensitive to certain quarters of society.
She said the department would meet with other relevant departments to iron out this issue as well as any other mistakes found in the textbook.-Star
