Assault on Indonesian nothing to do with football match, says police

A police report lodged by an Indonesian man, believed to be an Indonesian football team supporter, had nothing to do with violence in regards to a football match.
Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department director Huzir Mohamed (above) confirmed that a report for alleged assault was lodged by the victim on the morning of the day before the football match between Malaysia which took place on Nov 19.
The incident happened in Bukit Bintang around 2am, has been classified as a robbery case.
The 2022 World Cup/2023 Asian Cup qualifiers match took place at the National Stadium in Bukit Jalil in the evening.

"I can confirm there is a report lodged about the incident, but it has nothing to do with the football match. It is a robbery case," Huzir told Malaysiakini.
"We have yet to ascertain the motive of the incident yet. The victim got out of a taxi and they were assaulted," said Huzir who confirmed the incident had gone viral through a 48-second video clip currently investigated by the police.
Police's clarification came after the viral postings on social media, including a 48-second video, and certain media reports that the incident allegedly occurred around the National Stadium after Malaysia’s 2-0 victory over Indonesia.
He added that police are in the midst of tracking down the person who uploaded the video on social media.
Huzir said the victim lodged a report at the police booth of a hospital at 8.29am on Nov 19, and was advised by personnel on duty to seek treatment.
"At that time the investigating officer did not interview them.
"When the officer arrived, they have left, and so their statements were not recorded," said Huzir, adding that attempts to contact the duo had failed.
"I would like to seek cooperation from the Indonesian Embassy to bring these two witnesses (victims) because we have not interviewed them.
"(So far) we confirmed that they lost money and their passports, so that's why we said it's a robbery case," he said.
The Indonesian Embassy in Kuala Lumpur this morning said the supporter, identified as Fuad Naji, had lodged a police report over the alleged assault. - Mkini
