Yoursay: Dr M, look into the mirror before accusing others of U-turns

YOURSAY | ‘You have no credibility to lecture others on international laws.’
Gerard Lourdesamy: Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad, first please solve our dire economic and social problems in our own backyard before poking your nose into the affairs of other nations.

The Israelis are not building a settlement in our country, so why do you care? If the Arabs and Jews want to continue killing each other, that is their problem.
Please stay out of this and focus on the issues affecting your own citizens and rectify them as soon as possible.
Anonymous_f34cda3a: Indeed, why do you care so much about what goes on there? We have our own issues to sort out.
What is happening to the promises you made in the Pakatan Harapan’s manifesto? What have you done so far?
Maybe you should just hand over power to Harapan’s anointed successor Anwar Ibrahim.
Anonymous_b3cdcd05: Mahathir is very concerned about fair play, particularly in Muslim countries in conflict. However, he practices special rights/privileges, Islamic superiority and racial discrimination in own his backyard.
Also, don’t forget that he rejected the International Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination (Icerd) and the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court (ICC).
Anonymous_1371547149: Come on Mahathir, you have also made a lot of absurd U-turns. Have you already forgotten?
Let me remind you. There is your U-turn on Icerd, your U-turn on the recognition of Unified Examination Certificate (UEC), and the most absurd, your apparent U-turn in not handing over power to Anwar after having promised to do so before GE14.
Darmakochi: Enough of being a jaguh (champion) on international issues. Right now, it is very important for you as the prime minister to focus on so many issues that are affecting our country.
If these issues are not solved soon, it will have a lot of repercussions that is going to affect and will affect our country in the long run.
Those affected will include young Malaysians in schools, universities and those entering the job market.
I am so sick of the unhealthy political developments that are taking place now.
Shanmugam V K Subrayan: Is it fair of you to overstay as prime minister after promising to step down?
Is it fair of you to brand the minority citizens of Malaysia as ‘orang asing’ (foreigners)?
Is it fair of you embrace a foreign fugitive and protect him from legal action that he is accused of in his home country?
You should be the last person on Earth to talk about legalities and fair play.
Sherlock: Mahathir, your own government is in tatters and you still find time to worry about other countries.
We, the people of Malaysia, actually pay your salary to take care of Malaysian affairs, not the affairs of other countries.
If you want to talk about other people’s country, resign and you can talk all you want on your own time and money.
Pelanduk: Mahathir, you have no credibility to lecture others on international laws. Did you abide by it when India requested that controversial Muslim preacher Zakir Naik be deported?
You must have thicker skin than former prime minister Abdul Najib Razak when you try to teach others to follow international laws, while you blatantly ignore it.
Anonymous #13571680: Speaking about U-turns, what about your reversal of all those pre-election promises?
You label other people’s decision and action as absurd, but how about all those things you promised us and failed to deliver? What do you call that?
Frankie: If you understood the meaning of absurd, don't you think that you labelling Dong Zong which has been contributing to the Chinese education in Malaysia, resulting in skilled humanpower for the country, as a racist, also the same?
What about you not hearing what was said in the Malay Dignity Congress? Not absurd? There's many more absurdity in your calls. Do reflect on them.
Mat MD: Populism is on the rise both in America and in Europe. This trend, though abhorrent, is prevalent in America where it is used by Donald Trump in his presidential campaign to garner votes.
In legitimising Israel occupation of Arab land in the West Bank, though in contravention with UN resolutions, Trump is expecting that Jewish Americans will come in droves to vote for him in the coming election.
When a person is power-mad, anything illegitimate can be made legal, and he or she has no qualms in doing that.
If this despicable trend is spread to Malaysia, where leaders can turn bigoted and use race and religion to the extreme to gain power, we should be on guard and alert not to be caught into this trap and felt sorry later.
Malaysia needs a genuine multiracial government to look after the wellbeing of its various ethnic groups fairly and equitably, not pandering to any specific interest and needs of any particular race or religion, except those under the B40 (bottom 40 percent) group.
They have to be on guard always to ensure that Malaysia could continue to progress and grow strong economically to guarantee that peace and harmony will prevail. - Mkini
