SHAH ALAM: It is now compulsory for the Selangor menteri besar and state executive councillors to declare their assets as part of efforts to promote a work culture that is competent, transparent and free of corruption.
Selangor Menteri Besar Amirudin Shari, who announced this during the state legislative assembly sitting here today, said the move came into effect on Aug 19 when Selangor executive councillors took their oaths to be free from corruption during the monthly assembly of civil servants.
He said the move has the support of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) and would ensure the accountability and integrity of the state government.
He was responding to Michelle Ng (DAP-Subang Jaya) who asked whether the state government would follow the example of MPs in declaring their assets.
He said consideration would also be given to MACC’s proposal for all state assemblymen to declare their assets, adding that many representatives in Selangor do not hold positions with executive authority. - FMT
