DBKL says Gopal Sri Ram handling TTDI case free of charge

DBKL has denied that it is spending a large amount of money to hire senior lawyer Gopal Sri Ram.
PETALING JAYA: Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) has denied that it is spending a large amount of money to obtain the services of senior lawyer Gopal Sri Ram, who is representing it in the Taman Rimba Kiara case.
The Federal Territories ministry said Sri Ram offered his services pro bono to represent City Hall in the case.
“When the offer was referred to the legal firm representing City Hall in the case, they agreed to accept the offer. As such, the allegation that City Hall is spending a large amount of money for his services is false and baseless,” Bernama quoted the ministry as saying in a statement.
Residents of Taman Tun Dr Ismail (TTDI) are fighting the proposed development of the Taman Rimba Kiara project consisting of a 29-storey apartment block with 350 units of affordable housing, as well as eight blocks of service apartments and eight storeys of parking facilities.
The project is being undertaken by property developer Malton Bhd, through its subsidiary Memang Perkasa Sdn Bhd, and Yayasan Wilayah Persekutuan (YWP), a foundation chaired by the Federal Territories minister.
The residents are seeking a court order to quash DBKL’s approval of the project.

The Malaysian Insight reported earlier today that the residents were unhappy over the supposed hiring of Sri Ram, saying his legal fees would be borne by taxpayers. - FMT
