Embassy: 'Assault' took place in Bkt Bintang, not Bkt Jalil stadium

An Indonesian supporter purportedly assaulted by a group of Malaysian fans are claiming the incident occurred a day before the two national football teams faced-off on Tuesday.
The Indonesian Embassy in Kuala Lumpur said the supporter, identified as Fuad Naji, then lodged a police report over the incident several hours before the 2022 World Cup/2023 Asian Cup qualifiers at the National Stadium in Bukit Jalil.
"The case is over an attack in Bukit Bintang. And yes, the victim has lodged a police report on Nov 19," Indonesian Embassy counsellor Yusron B Ambary told Malaysiakini.

This is in contrary to viral postings on social media, including a 48-second video, and certain media reports that the incident followed Malaysia’s 2-0 victory over Indonesia.
Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department (CID) director Huzir Mohamed yesterday said police are investigating the 48-second clip and a preliminary probe has indicated that the incident did not take place at the National Stadium.
"To ensure the investigation can be conducted comprehensively, police urge the individuals depicted as the victims in the video to come forward to lodge a police report," said Huzir in a statement.
Yusron, meanwhile, clarified that the embassy was informed by the head of Indonesian supporters alliance in Malaysia, on the morning of Nov 19, that one of their members was assaulted in Bukit Bintang the night before.
"We were told the victim also lost his bag which contained his passport and other documents.
"Our first step is to ask the victim to come to the embassy so that we can process his emergency travel documents," said Yusron during a press conference at the embassy yesterday, as reported by Indonesia's TV One.
He understood the supporter had flown back to Indonesia.
After the 48-second video had gone viral, Yusron said he was informed by another supporter and witness to the incident of what had allegedly happened on that night.
"Based on the information the embassy has sent a protest note to Malaysia's foreign ministry and urged action against parties found to be responsible for the incident.
"Evidence in the form of the viral video and police report by the victim were also handed over for further actions," said Yusron.
Indonesian media earlier this week reported that the Republic's Youth and Sports Ministry had sent a protest note to the secretary-general of Malaysia's Youth and Sports Ministry.
Youth and Sports Minister Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman in his social media postings have yet to acknowledge calls from Indonesia for him to apologise and instead urged the victim to lodge a police report over the incident. - Mkini
