THE Tg Piai by-election result has showed that voters are against political extremism and slander, said PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang.
He said the results also indicated that the multi-racial public has accepted the political charter that Umno and PAS had inked in the interest of the Muslim community.
He said it will pave the way to closer ties between the two big Malay parties.
“Pakatan Harapan’s (PH) defeat in this by-election is an indication of public objection against its failures to take care of Malaysians and its unfulfilled election promises.
“It has showed that the public rejects the culture of political extremism and slander,” he said in a statement posted on his Facebook page.
In yesterday’s by-election, Barisan Nasional (BN) won the seat it had held for two terms before the last general election with a majority of 15,086 votes.
BN’s Wee Jeck Seng polled 25,466 votes to the 10,380 obtained by PH’s Karmaine Sardini.
Gerakan’s Wendy Subramaniam won 1,707 votes, while Berjasa’s Badrulhisham Abdul Aziz took 850.
The two independent candidates, Ang Chuan Lock and Faridah Aryani Abdul Ghaffar, got 380 and 32 votes.
Wee’s total tonight is about 22% more than the 20,731 votes he received in the 14th general election last year, when he lost the seat to PH candidate and incumbent Md Farid Md Rafik.
