TG PIAI POLLS | It is not fair for Tanjung Piai voters to punish a fledgeling Pakatan Harapan government, said Education Minister Maszlee Malik.
"Do we want to punish those who are making the country clean of corruption, so that is not a kleptocracy [...] to become an 'Asian Tiger' once again?
"Do we want to punish good people and take back those who are proven evil and kleptocrats?" he asked at a press conference in Kukup Laut today after speaking with local headmasters of Chinese schools.
He added that he believed the people of Tanjung Piai were mature enough to not elect those who were "evil".
He said this when asked about the displeasure of voters towards the ruling coalition.
Bersatu president Muhyiddin Yasin had admitted that Chinese voters were not happy with Harapan, particularly over economic issues.
Asked today about Chinese anger over education policies such as the introduction of Jawi lessons in schools, the funding of independent Chinese schools and the MCA-owned Tunku Abdul Rahman University College, Maszlee reiterated that the Harapan government was still in its infancy.
"The Harapan (government) is less than two years old. In those two years, we have done many good things, the 'Ziarah Cakna" (Home Visits programme), zero-reject policy, we have done everything the best we can.
"So it is not fair to punish us who are less than two years old," he said. - Mkini
