MPs briefed on IPCMC, awaiting cabinet greenlight

All parliamentarians have been briefed on the Independent Police Complaints and Misconduct Commission (IPCMC) bill and it will be brought to cabinet to be approved next, said Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Liew Vui Keong (above).
"The IPCMC 2019 Bill has been presented to all parliament members this morning and we have received some suggestions, but because it still under embargo, I cannot distribute any information to the public at this point.
"After this, I will bring this matter to the cabinet, and if the cabinet agrees with the suggestions from the special select committee, then we will continue with the tabling of this bill next week," Liew told reporters in parliament today.
He said there were about 24 recommendations from the parliament special select committee, and he praised them for a job well done in engaging with the public and other stakeholders.

The embargo on the IPCMC Bill will last until it is tabled in parliament next week, he said.
The IPCMC Bill was referred to the special committee on Oct 7 after its second reading in parliament.
This was to look into improving the proposed law, which had faced criticism from many quarters, such as the opposition, NGOs and even the police force.
The IPCMC is meant to replace the Enforcement Integrity Agency Commission (Eaic), to look into complaints of misconduct against enforcement agencies. - Mkini
