PH the enemy, not MCA, Umno’s Khaled Nordin says

Umno vice-president Khaled Nordin speaks at a ceramah in Pekan Nenas, Pontian last night.
PONTIAN: Umno vice-president Mohamed Khaled Nordin says despite its multi-cornered nature, the by-election in Tanjung Piai this month will boil down to a contest between the government and the biggest opposition coalition.
“It is a multi-cornered fight, but the focus will be on the government and the biggest opposition coalition,” he said at a ceramah in Pekan Nenas here last night.
He added that Barisan Nasional’s (BN) goal is to bring down Pakatan Harapan (PH), no matter who the coalition fields in the by-election on Nov 16.
“Umno’s enemy is not MCA, it’s PH,” he said.
“After the last general election, many of our coalition members left us, but MCA stayed with us.”
The Tanjung Piai by-election will see a six-way fight between MCA’s Wee Jeck Seng, who held the seat for two terms before losing it in the May 9 polls last year; PPBM’s Karmanie Sardini, Gerakan’s Wendy Subramaniam, Berjasa’s Badhrulhisham Abdul Aziz, as well as independent candidates Faridah Aryani Abdul Ghaffar and Ang Chuan Lock.
Khaled also said that BN, as an opposition coalition, could no longer enjoy the perks of holding talks in a comfortable setting as it had during its time in the federal government.
Last night’s ceramah was held under a canopy on a piece of undeveloped land amid shop lots in Jalan Sawah.
“We cannot have ceramahs inside halls with air-conditioning,” Khaled said, adding however that people had come to listen nonetheless.
Over 70 people, the majority of whom were BN members, attended Khaled’s talk last night. - FMT
