Amid a vacancy for the education minister's post and rumours of a cabinet reshuffle, PKR president Anwar Ibrahim said both matters were not discussed during his meeting with Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad yesterday.
"It was a heart to heart discussion between two individuals and he (Mahathir) gave some explanations.
"But I did not discuss about the cabinet, and I also did not lobby," Anwar (above) told reporters today when met after an international conference themed 'Unity in Diversity' in Kuala Lumpur.
"By coincidence, we met yesterday, and I don't want people to think that I'm lobbying (for a post)," Anwar later added when asked to clarify his remarks.
He also reiterated that he had raised in general terms, the importance of a need for any related decisions to be referred to the Pakatan Harapan Presidential Council.
The Port Dickson MP in a Facebook post after his meeting with Mahathir yesterday said among matters discussed include the KL Summit 2019.
Prior to hosting today's function, its organiser - the Muslim Professionals Forum (MPF) - has denied a media report that the event was Anwar's response to the KL Summit last month.
The report had claimed Anwar had intentionally "gathered a group of Muslim scholars seen as more ‘theologically aligned’ with Saudi Arabia”.
The KL Summit saw a gathering of Islamic leaders, including from Iran, Turkey and Qatar as well as over 400 delegates from 56 countries, but proved controversial as it was snubbed by Saudi Arabia.
Anwar, who earlier delivered a keynote address, summed up the day's discussions - featuring speakers from the US and Nigeria - as a platform to discuss contemporary issues surrounding the Muslim community and global challenges through contemporary Islamic discourse. - Mkini
