KIMANIS POLLS | BN Kimanis by-election candidate Mohamad Alamin is confident that his chances of winning with a large majority will be boosted now that Anifah Amin is set to join the campaign trail.
Labelling it an advantage, Mohamad said this is as Anifah, the former long-time Kimanis MP, would surely command large support and influence in the parliamentary constituency.
“To some extent, this will help our campaign. Anifah is not a newcomer, he is a senior leader and has long served the Kimanis parliamentary constituency.
"[...]Of course he has his own supporters, we cannot deny this. He will come to the ground together and we can boost our support and (vote) majority
“I am optimistic that the arrival of Anifah will help us,” he said when met on the campaign trail today.
Anifah, who was also former foreign affairs minister, is slated to speak BN’s talk at Seladan, tonight.
Anifah had held the seat for close to four terms, from 2004. He retained the seat in GE14, defeating Warisan’s Karim Bujang with a slim 156-vote majority.
However, the Federal Court had, on Dec 2, upheld the Aug 16, 2019, Election Court ruling declaring the Anifah’s victory null and void, paving way for Jan 18 polls.
The 67-year-old Karim, former five-term Bongawan state lawmaker has once more been fielded at Warisan’s candidate.
Meanwhile, Mohamad, who is fondly known as Toh Moh, is a 48-year-old Kota Kinabalu-based lawyer.
He succeeded Karim as the Bongawan state assemblyperson in 2013 but failed to retain his seat in the 2018 general election.
Elaborating on the BN campaign to date, Mohamad claimed voters have been responding positively to him.
This, he further claimed, included at homes of voters who had previously supported the then opposition party.
“I have visited almost half of the voting districts...
“I am very satisfied when I campaign house-to-house, the response I received has been good,” he said. - Mkini
