Kg Segambut Permai residents move to nearby PPR units

All 30 families from Kampung Segambut Permai have accepted temporary accommodation offers from the Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) and are in the midst of moving into People’s Housing Project (PPR) units.
All residents have since moved out of their original houses.
Demolition of the houses began on Monday this week and continues today, according to residents’ representative Mohd Nazeem Sultan Mohamed.
Assisting the residents is Parti Sosialis Malaysia (PSM) honorary treasurer Soh Sook Hwa, who told Malaysiakini that DBKL had, as promised, offered families a six-month stay at three-bedroom PPR units on Dec 31 last year.

They have been given the keys to units at one of five PPRs - PPR Kampung Baru Air Panas, PPR Wahyu, PPR Intan Baiduri, PPR Pekan Batu and Perumahan Awam (PA) Desa Rejang.
This fulfilled their request for housing near to their original homes.
As for the residents’ request for a permanent housing solution, Soh said DBKL will allow them to apply to renew their six-months tenure at the PPR units.
“People can apply to renew the agreement before the six months end.
“The (residents) committee will take charge and follow up with DBKL in (the) next two months,” she said when contacted.
Kampung Segambut Permai is located on private land and the landowner has been seeking a complete demolition since last September. Residents claim that their forebears had set up the village in the late 1960s.
On Christmas Eve last year, residents got into a standoff with court bailiffs and police officers when bulldozers appeared in the settlement and wanted to demolish their homes.
The bailiffs later decided to delay the remaining demolition work. - Mkini
