CORONAVIRUS | The Health Ministry has urged officials at the state level including health executive councillors to refrain from issuing statements on matters related to the new coronavirus in the country.
Its minister, Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad, said this was because only the ministry has the latest update of the situation and steps taken by the health authorities.
He said this today when asked to comment on a statement by Johor state exco Aminolhuda Hassan, who yesterday told the media that there were no cases of Novel Coronavirus 2019-nCoV detected in the state.
This was in contradiction to what Dzulkefly announced this morning that the health authorities have confirmed that three visitors from China had been tested positive with the virus.
"That is not a problem. The Johor state exco didn't know.
"That is why we had been saying that only us (Health Ministry) can issue a statement (on this matter).
"So we hope that the state level would stop from making statements. He (Aminolhuda) said that there was no case in Johor because there was no clinical symptoms shown by the visitors," he said.
Yesterday, Aminolhuda, who is the chairperson for Johor Education, Health and Human Resource Council, told the press that four adults and four children from Wuhan were being monitored by the Johor Health Department for 14 days.
He said the individuals, however, are not barred from leaving to their home country during that period as clinical samples taken from them showed that they were negative of the virus. - Mkini
