Six PKR reps in Harapan council to have 'one voice' on PM issue

PKR secretary-general Saifuddin Nasution today said all six party representatives in the Harapan presidential council must speak with one voice on the issue of transition between Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad to PKR president Anwar Ibrahim.
The six representatives are Anwar himself, Saifuddin (photo), PKR deputy president Mohamed Azmin Ali, PKR advisory council chief Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, and vice-presidents Tian Chua, and Dr Xavier Jayakumar.
"The PKR Central Leadership Council meeting today has decided that all six of our representatives must speak in one voice on the issue of transition," he told reporters after the meeting at PKR headquarters in Kuala Lumpur this afternoon.
"As per public knowledge, the next prime minister candidate from PKR will be Datuk Seri Anwar.

"This has been agreed upon (by Harapan presidential council) since January 2018," he said.
Saifuddin said the six representatives were reminded today that they must only raise the party's stand and not their personal opinions on the issue.
He added that PKR will not impose its will upon other Harapan coalition parties, beyond reaffirming what had been agreed upon in past discussions, including on the timeline for transition, which had been a subject of debate.
In recent weeks, calls have been made from within PKR and Harapan components, for the presidential council to fix a date for Mahathir to hand over the prime minister's post.
Mahathir himself had indicated that the handover is unlikely to happen before November when Malaysia is set to host the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (Apec) summit.
At the same time, Mahathir on Thursday also said that he would be prepared to relinquish his post with immediate effect should the Harapan presidential council demand it.
Anwar, meanwhile, has repeatedly maintained that the final transition must be conducted in a peaceful and orderly manner. - Mkini
