GEORGE TOWN: It’s a 2,500-year-old festival to honour the ancestors but the cemetery grounds here are silent.
This Saturday will be Qing Ming, also known as Chinese All Souls Day or Tomb-Sweeping Day, and the Chinese who observe the occasion would usually crowd the resting place of their dearly departed on the weekends before the actual day.
Praying activities usually begin 10 days before or after the actual day.
But Malaysians have been exhorted to remain at home in view of the Covid-19 outbreak.
A check at several cemetery grounds and columbariums here revealed that it was all quiet as Malaysians abided by the movement control order. - Star
