Former minister Azalina Othman Said has added her voice to the growing number of Perikatan Nasional MPs who are dissatisfied with how cabinet positions have been dispensed in the new government headed by Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin.
"Coalition government should be based on proportionate representations and not dominated by any one party.
"To make it more legitimate, it must have (a) written agreement between political parties involved," she said on Twitter this afternoon.
"Umno should have been given more significant ministries like the Women's Ministry, Home Ministry, Finance Ministry, Rural Development and Agriculture and Agro-Based Industry Ministry."
She ended by saying "In conclusion... my opinion, #PM8 is the most brilliant politician among Malay leaders in 2020," and hashtagging it with KingmakerPN2020 in what appeared to be a swipe at the prime minister.
Azalina, who is serving her fourth term as Pengerang MP, is among the most experienced MPs having previously served as youth and sports minister (2004-8), tourism minister (2008-9) and minister in the Prime Minister's Department (2015-18).
Her comments are believed to be based on Umno being the largest party in PN and having more MPs than Muhyiddin's Bersatu party while the latter is strongly represented in the cabinet.
Bersatu supreme council member Rais Hussin responded to Azalina's tweet with heavy sarcasm saying "Agreement between political parties! Really!"
"In politics, there is no such thing as agreement! It is pretty fluid depending on self-interests!" he said.
Earlier today, Cameron Highlands MP Ramli Mohd Nor had spoken out over the appointments, saying that the PN government has sidelined the voice of the Orang Asli in the peninsular.
"Just look at how many from MCA and Bersatu were appointed as senators and ministers. It seems like appointing an Orang Asli representative is a burden to them," he said.
Kinabatangan MP Bung Moktar Radin had also lamented that Sabah Umno was not represented in the cabinet and criticised Tengku Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz's statement that there will not be political interference with him as the new finance minister.
"He does not realise that his appointment is a political one. If that is his position, it would be best that he sets up his own ministry," said Bung.
Bintulu MP and Progressive Democratic Party president Tiong King Sing went one step further and rejected the offered post of deputy national unity minister, according to his party secretary-general Nelson Balang Rining who said of Muhyiddin's appointment: “The post does not befit his position as president of the party."
