Azmin summons Selangor Opposition assemblymen ahead of March 27 stimulus package

KLANG: Selangor’s Opposition assemblymen have all been summoned to a meeting with former PKR deputy president Datuk Seri Azmin Ali at the Finance Ministry at 5.00pm on Thursday (March 26).
The meeting comes ahead of the latest economic stimulus package set to be announced by Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin on Friday (March 27).
Opposition assemblymen in the state rule by Pakatan Harapan include Azmin (Bukit Antarabangsa), Hilman Idham (Gombak Setia), Datuk Abdul Rashid Asari (Selat Kelang), Adhif Syan Abdullah (Dengkil), Mohd Shaid Rosli (Jeram), Sallehudin Amiruddin (Kuang) and Harumaini Omar (Batang Kali), Rizam Ismail (Sungai Air Tawar), Datuk Mohd Imran Tamrin (Sungai Panjang), Datuk Rosni Sohar (Hulu Bernam), Datuk Mohd Shamsudin Lias (Sungai Burong), Zakaria Hanafi (Semenyih) and Datuk Dr Ahmad Yunus Hairi (Sijangkang).
Selangor Opposition chief Rizam said he received the invitation for the meeting on Wednesday (March 25).
“We only received the invitation, but were not told what the meeting is going to be about," he said.
Rizam said that all five Selangor Barisan Nasional assemblymen had confirmed attendance.
Bersatu’s Batang Kali assembly Harumaini said he would not be attending the meeting.
“I'm busy distributing face masks and daily needs to my constituents, as well as frontliners on duty. I just cannot afford the time to attend the meeting," he said.
Harumani, Adhif Syan, Mohd Shaid and Sallehudin had signed individual statutory declarations pledging their support for the Selangor Pakatan Harapan government, even though their party Bersatu is no longer part of the coalition.
The four were also the only Opposition assemblymen to directly receive the RM30,000 special allocation each under Selangor’s latest stimulus package to buy and distribute necessary goods during the Covid-19 control movement order.
Pakatan assemblymen in Selangor currently receive an annual allocation between RM730,000 to RM1mil annually to manage their respective constituencies.
The stimulus package’s finance committee is chaired by Azmin. - Star
