Bandar Kuching MP, Suhakam commissioners recover from Covid-19

Malaysiakini

CORONAVIRUS | Bandar Kuching MP Kelvin Yii has been discharged from hospital where he was quarantined after testing positive for Covid-19.
Yii (above) in a statement said he was allowed to return home after results of two subsequent tests came up negative.
"Today the Health Department has informed me that my last two tests came back negative and thus I am allowed to be discharged back home.
"Even with the results, I will continue to practice self-isolation for extra precautions and continue to follow the advice of the Health Department throughout this time," he said.
Throughout his seven days in hospital, Yii said he felt well, and the doctors followed a procedure to carry out two final tests for Covid-19.
With the two negative results, Yii said the doctors had decided to discharge him today.
"Since these two tests has shown favourable results, the doctors then made the informed decision to discharge me back home with precautions to be taken," he said.
He further expressed gratitude and admiration for frontliners on duty - from the health care professionals to hospital cleaners and other service staff.
"Every one of them are like you and I, they have a family at home that they are concerned of, have to take care of and naturally also worry about their wellbeing.
"Some of them are parents with little children at home. So they (do) not only risk their own lives being in the frontline, but also the lives of their family," he noted.
Separately, a Suhakam commissioner also confirmed that he received two negative Covid-19 test results and has been discharged after nine days in hospital.
It is understood another Suhakam commissioner who tested positive earlier has also been discharged.
Suhakam had initially announced that its headquarters would be closed and disinfected from March 11 to March 13 after detection of the first positive case among its members.
The commission subsequently sent out a notice of extended closure for its office at Menara TH Perdana, Kuala Lumpur, with an initial expected reopening date on March 25. - Mkini
