Chaos in Brickfields on fourth day of MCO

DESPITE the authorities advising the public to stay away from crowded areas and to practice social distancing, the sight of crowded sundry shops in Little India, Brickfields, is giving residents in the area the jitters.
Several residents shared pictures of people, including the elderly, picking up and touching items in some of the crowded shops.
“I was there for a little while and was shocked that there were no hand sanitizers and wipes for us to use, ’’ said a resident of Crescent Court who preferred to remain anonymous.
“No one was keeping their distance and I was horrified so I left, ’’ said the resident.
Another resident said the shop owners did nothing to control the situation, and were not assertive enough with shoppers.
“I approached some of the shop owners to advise them and I was scolded and told to mind my own business, ” said T. Saras, a resident living nearby.
“The shop owner even asked me to provide signboards informing people of the rules, ’’ she said
"It was crazy. It was like they don’t understand how crucial this is, ’’ she added.
Star Metro contacted a representative of the Brickfields Business Council for comments and was told to look into other places.
“Why don't you go look elsewhere?
"The authorities are there to deal (with) it if something is wrong, why don’t you go and educate the public," he said. - Star
