Come voluntarily before cops come for you, minister warns tabligh participants

Malaysiakini

CORONAVIRUS | Defence Minister Ismail Sabri has urged 4,000 people who attended the tabligh gathering at a mosque in Sri Petaling, Kuala Lumpur to step forward to be tested for Covid-19 before the police come knocking on their doors.
In a press conference today, Ismail said police have identified all those who had attended the gathering on Feb 28.
"There are 4,000 attendees which I mentioned yesterday who have yet to come forward or voluntarily go to the hospital or clinic (for screening).
"The police had informed in the meeting (today) that they have identified those people.
"So I hope they step forward. Don't wait until the police pick them up at their house," said Ismail (photo).
The tabligh gathering cluster formed the largest Covid-19 cases, comprising 576 cases and one death. Of this, five of the cases are from Labuan.
Yesterday, Labuan police had picked up a 68-year-old man who is the first contact of a tabligh committee member.
He had refused to go for a health screening, leading the police to carry out the operation by force against him.
In a Twitter post recently, a medical doctor highlighted how a man “lied at a klinik kesihatan about (his) history of going to the tabligh gathering and then tested positive”.
“Now all the staff in contact (with him) had to be quarantined and possibly could be infected,” he said.
Health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah had advised the public to be truthful in providing information concerning Covid-19.
He said there have been several incidents this week where patients concealed their contacts or symptoms.
“Travel history and close contact information, for example, those linked to the tabligh gathering at the Sri Petaling mosque were also not being revealed.
“Only after clinical procedures and treatment were completed that such critical information was disclosed,” he added.
By this time, Hisham said, the safety of healthcare workers and facilities were compromised.
“It is a crime not to reveal or hide information.
“I appeal to the public and patients to be truthful and not to hide information and risk our lives and facilities,” he said. - Mkini

  1. Why these tablig people don't want to go for screening? Oh ya, they feared God more than the virus! So be it!. They may be protected but can they say the same thing for their close family members and their contacts? They don't care right?. What version of their religion did they practice?. It shows how selfish they are!. Yet they said they are God abidance people, my foot!.
