CORONAVIRUS | Health director-general Noor Hisham Abdullah has urged the public to postpone mass gathering activities to avoid the possibility of contracting Covid-19.
In a statement, Noor Hisham also urged those who have symptoms of infection to the respiratory tract to avoid crowded areas as well as from attending public programmes including those related to religion.
"Individuals who have symptoms are advised to distance themselves at least 1m away from other individuals," he said.
This morning, Islamic Affairs Minister Zulkifli Mohamad said that if the situation pertaining to the Covid-19 continues to spread out of control, there's no need for Friday prayers.
However, the former federal territories mufti said that it has to be replaced with the zohor prayers at home.
For now, he said there is no need to call off Friday prayers but advised the sermon be cut short while urging the public to perform ablution at home before going to the mosque.
Avoid travelling to affected countries
The Health Ministry has also advised the public to avoid travelling to countries plagued with Covid-19.
Those who carry symptoms should not visit other places in the country during the school holiday, he said.
As of noon yesterday, Malaysia has recorded a total of 149 Covid-19 cases with 26 recoveries. - Mkini
