Covid-19: Selangor announces stimulus package, Kelantan announces RM5m allocation

Malaysiakini

CORONAVIRUS | Healthcare personnel in Selangor involved in Covid-19 operations at nine hospitals in the state will receive a RM200 one-off contribution from the state government under its special stimulus package announced by Menteri Besar Amirudin Shari this morning.
Amirudin (photo) said the state government realises the hard work of the medical personnel, many of whom had to be on duty without leave due to the virus outbreak.
The state government is also going to provide food packs for on-duty personnel at hospitals in Selangor until the end of the movement control order, which ends on March 31.
Besides healthcare personnel, the package also provides one-off RM200 assistance to Selangor students in Sabah and Sarawak, who could not return to the state when the order came into effect.
"The state government initially planned to bring them back, but the National Security Council advised against it. We understand they might face difficulties to find new accommodations or getting access to food, so we decided to give a one-off contribution of RM200," he said.
According to Amirudin, the assistance was only given to students in Sabah and Sarawak because the state government is of the view that those who are in other Peninsular states are still reachable by their families in case of any eventualities.
The state government is also providing free food for students who are staying at its higher learning colleges and institutions, namely the Selangor Islamic Universiti College, Inpens International College, and Selangor University.
Amirudin said the state administration has agreed to allow each of the state assemblypersons to utilise up to RM30,000 for Mesra Rakyat activities throughout the order period.
He stressed that the funds would only be used to assist individuals and families affected.
Businesses, Smart Sewa tenants also receive assistance
Under the stimulus package, some 80,000 stall and business operators will get assistance in the form of a rental fee waiver to ease their financial burden due to loss of income.
"Also provided is a one-off special contribution of RM500 to ease their cash flow through an allocation of RM40 million (by the state government).
"Application for this contribution will be between April 1 and April 30. The whole initiative will cost RM52 million to the state government."
Besides this, entrepreneurs under the Selangor Hijrah Scheme are given postponement from repaying their loan instalment for three months; while 2,700 Smart Sewa tenants are also given three months postponement from paying their rentals.
The people of Selangor are also given the leeway of one-month delay in paying their quit rent and parcel rent.
Meanwhile, the Kelantan government has announced RM5 million in special allocation to ease its people’s burden due to the pandemic.
“The Kelantan government views seriously the spread of Covid-19 and the current situation which led to the Malaysian government taking drastic measures with the declaration of the control order.
“Hence, the Kelantan government agrees to allocate RM5 million as a special allocation to ease and lighten the burden of the less fortunate due to the spread of Covid-19," state Menteri Besar Ahmad Yakob (above) said in a statement.
He further assured that the salaries and allowances of state government contract and part-time workers will be paid, “just like regular staff”.
Details on the allocation will be provided at a later time. - Mkini
