PETALING JAYA: Johor Pakatan Harapan (PH) acknowledged losing one of its assemblymen today after PKR’s Chong Fat Full announced his support for the new Umno-led state government.
In a statement, it said the stand of Chong, who is Pemanis assemblyman, went against his remarks at a press conference on Feb 28 and the statutory declaration he had signed.
“Johor Pakatan Harapan is confident his decision was made under duress to the point he went against his previous stand,” it said.
It added that it would work towards ensuring that the people’s mandate, given to them in the 14th general election, is respected.
Last week, PPBM and Umno in Johor formed a coalition, claiming that they had obtained a majority in the state assembly.
Umno’s Hasni Mohammad was appointed as menteri besar, leading the new Gabungan Baharu state government comprising Barisan Nasional, PAS and PPBM.
With Chong’s support, the coalition now commands 29 seats in the 56-member house, two more than PH. - FMT
