PETALING JAYA: The Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) has eased its requirement for all workers, suppliers and customers of supermarkets, markets and restaurants to wear face masks while on the premises.
It has also relaxed its requirements on the provision of hand sanitisers.
DBKL’s requirements in a compliance order notice issued on March 22 had come under scrutiny amid the shortage of masks as health authorities only recommended their use for those showing Covid-19 symptoms.
It said then that if any supermarket, convenience store, restaurant, or public or private market failed to adhere to the requirement, they would be ordered to close under the Local Government Act 1976.
In a new notice issued today, it said that masks and the provision of hand sanitisers were encouraged but no longer a requirement.
“As such, the compliance order notice No 1/2020 dated March 22, 2020 is cancelled.”
However, DBKL maintained the requirement for one-metre social distancing and a limit on the number of customers on these premises at any given time.
It said failure to comply could result in enforcement action. - FMT
