Dr M's return to Harapan not discussed in meeting with Amanah leaders: Mahfuz

Malaysiakini

Amanah vice-president Mahfuz Omar today clarified that the issue of former premier Dr Mahathir Mohamad's return to Pakatan Harapan did not arise during their meeting last night.
Instead, Mahfuz (above) said the meeting, which was also attended by other Amanah leaders, had discussed Mahathir's readiness to cooperate against the new Perikatan Nasional (PN) government.
"Whether he (Mahathir) will return to Harapan was not mentioned, but we will cooperate.
"Because they (Bersatu) will be facing their elections, so let us give them room to finish their elections first," he told Malaysiakini.
Last night, the Pokok Sena MP posted on Facebook about a "heart-to-heart meeting" between several Amanah leaders and Mahathir.
The former deputy human resources minister also shared several photographs which among others showed Amanah president Mohamad Sabu, Ampang deputy president Salahuddin Ayub, and two other vice-presidents, Mujahid Yusof Rawa and Husam Musa.
Also present during the meeting at the Perdana Leadership Foundation was Bersatu secretary-general Marzuki Yahya.
Commenting further, Mahfuz said the meeting yesterday was held in order for Amanah leaders to personally gauge Mahathir's stand in light of the political crisis that led to Harapan's downfall.
"We can see that Mahathir's stand did not change. He could not in any way accept the formation of this new PN government.
"Although the ones appointed (to cabinet) have no court cases, they remain to be among loyal supporters of (former premier) Najib Abdul Razak the kleptocrat, up until the last general elections," he said.
"So for sure the goal to clear Najib of all charges is a part of their agenda," he claimed.
Mahfuz said that the outcome of their meeting yesterday showed Mahathir's intention to remain involved in a second attempt to save Malaysia, particularly from the kleptocrats.
He, however, added that his views only represented Amanah and not the entire Harapan coalition. - Mkini
