Dr Wee: Motor insurance, driving licence renewals must be done online

PETALING JAYA: The renewal of motor insurance policies and driving licences must be done online, says the Transport Ministry.
Its minister Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong said vehicle owners must ensure that their vehicle has insurance coverage that is valid during the movement control order (MCO) period.
“The renewal of insurance coverage for motor vehicles can be done online through the portals of the various insurance companies, ” he said in a statement on Monday (March 23).
Dr Wee said that this was following consultation with the General Insurance Association of Malaysia (PIAM) and Takaful industry on how to ease the public’s burden during the MCO.
He added that those renewing their competent driver’s licence (CDL) or motor vehicle licence (LKM) must do so online as well.
“This service could be done via the MySikap JPJ portal or the MyEG portal (for those who wish to renew their LKM).
“Those who have renewed their licence via these two portals during the MCO period need not go to the counter to collect their physical driver licence, as the proof of payment for the licence fee is enough.
“This allowance is only valid for the MCO period. People are to collect their CDL card or LKM sticker as soon as the MCO period is over, ” he said.
All counter service for agencies under the Transport Ministry will be closed until March 31.
The agencies include the Road Transport Department (JPJ), the Land Public Transport Agency, the Vehicle Licensing Board in Sabah and Sarawak, as well as JPJ services at post offices.
Dr Wee advised the public to stay at home, unless they really need to go out.
“This is to ensure the effectiveness of the MCO which is to break the chain of transmission of the Covid-19 virus, ” he said.
Any complaints and enquiries can be channelled via email aduan@mot.gov.my, WhatsApp 019-2907723 and the ministry hotline at 1800-88-7723, which operates from 8am to 6pm.
Meanwhile, in an earlier Facebook post, Dr Wee congratulated and conveyed his best wishes to Johor Ruler Sultan Ibrahim Ibni Almarhum Sultan Iskandar whose birthday falls on Monday.
