Five Jais assistant marriage registrars in quarantine, waiting for Covid-19 test results

Malaysiakini

CORONAVIRUS | Five assistant marriage registrars from the Selangor Islamic Affairs Department (Jais) have been quarantined pending results of their Covid-19 tests, reported Selangorkini.
The state's official media portal also quoted Jais director Mohd Shahzihan Ahmad saying that all marriage procedures would be postponed until the movement control order has been lifted.
"The move to postpone all marriage solemnisation (akad nikah) is in line with similar orders issued in the Federal Territories, Perak and Sarawak to contain the outbreak of Covid-19," he said today.
Their latest move was taken after several marriage registrars were investigated for Covid-19 infection.
Jais had on March 17 issued a circular which stated that the solemnisation ceremony could still proceed throughout the order's enforcement from March 18 to March 31 provided no wedding party would be held afterwards.
The solemnisation could only be held at a private premise, attended by a Jais marriage registrar or deputy registrar, the bride and groom, the bride's guardian (wali), two witnesses and two representatives each from the bride and groom.
The entire ceremony should not last longer than 20 minutes, including the sermon, and the solemnisation process would be done without the customary handshake between the groom and the bride's guardian or marriage registrar. - Mkini

  1. Are you saying that any activity less then 20 minutes will be safe from corona virus? I am about to burst laughing. Please prove me wrong.
