GEORGE TOWN: PPBM’s Larut MP Hamzah Zainuddin is tipped to be the next PPBM secretary-general, following the sacking of its incumbent Marzuki Yahya.
Hamzah, a former Umno Supreme Council member who is currently the home minister, has not responded to FMT when contacted.
PPBM president Muhyiddin Yassin had informed Marzuki of his termination as the party’s secretary-general in a letter dated March 18.
When contacted, Marzuki said he would not appeal the sacking.
“All I want to ask is, has he consulted the party chairman before deciding to sack me?” he added.
Dr Mahathir Mohamad, who resigned as party chairman at the height of the political crisis last month, is seeking to return to the post, and has confirmed his candidacy for the PPBM elections this year.
Delegates from 189 divisions will choose their candidates on April 18, although it is not certain if the party’s congress would be allowed to go ahead due to the Covid-19 restrictions. - FMT
