The Pakatan Harapan secretariat has condemned the purported harassment of one of its members, Shah Alam MP Khalid Samad in Kuala Terengganu last night.
“We strongly condemn the actions of this group and ask for the police to immediately investigate the incident and bring those involved to face justice.
“We would also like to thank the police who have cooperated in ensuring Khalid’s safety until he arrived at the airport this morning,” the secretariat said in a statement today.
It was reported earlier today that Khalid was purportedly harassed by a group of about 20 unknown individuals in Kuala Terengganu last night.
Terengganu Amanah chairperson Raja Kamarul Bahrin Shah Raja Ahmad had said that Khalid, who is the Amanah communications director, was uninjured as he managed to escape into his car.
“Yes, we were supposed to have an event in Kuala Terengganu, but it was cancelled because of the Covid-19 outbreak.
“We later decided to air it live on Facebook at the Amanah headquarters to discuss current political scenarios.
“After the end of the two-hour-long Facebook live, we were leaving the Amanah building when about 15 to 20 men suddenly appeared.
“They were hurling insults at us, but their target was Khalid. Khalid managed to enter his car which brought him directly to the police station nearby. Luckily, Khalid managed to get into his car,” Raja Kamarul said, as reported earlier by The Malaysian Insight.
He said the group of men were also waiting for Khalid in front of the Kuala Terengganu district police station.
When asked who were the group of men involved, Raja Kamarul said he believed they were “supporters of a political party”.
“They followed Khalid and waited for him outside the police station, showing that they are big-headed. We know who they are, there are some among them whom we recognise.
“They were shouting at us to not touch their ‘Tok Guru’, so we know who they are,” he said.
It was also reported that a police source in Kuala Terengganu had confirmed that a police report had been lodged and investigations are taking place over this matter. - Mkini
