PETALING JAYA: The Department of Islamic Development (Jakim) has set up a task force on the handling of bodies of Covid-19 victims.
In a statement on its Facebook page, Jakim said the task force, set up at the onset of the Covid-19 outbreak, has been briefed on special guidelines to handle the remains.
These methods were outlined in a special National Council for Islamic Religious Affairs Malaysia (MKI) decision on March 15 that the bodies of Covid-19 victims should be handled according to a 2015 fatwa on the management of bodies suspected or confirmed to be infected with the Ebola virus.
The 2015 fatwa was decided at a fatwa committee meeting in February that year.
This has received the blessing of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah, Jakim said.
The task force has 18 members, consisting of officers from Jakim and main mosques under the management of Jakim and the Federal Territories Islamic Religious Department (Jawi). - FMT
