LHDN announces tax deductions for donations to Covid-19 funds

PETALING JAYA: The Inland Revenue Board (LHDN) today announced tax deductions for those who donate cash or items to contain the Covid-19 pandemic which has so far claimed 20 lives in the country.
Taxpayers can contribute cash and items to the health ministry’s Covid-19 Fund or cash to a similar fund by the National Disaster Management Agency (Nadma) under the Prime Minister’s Department.
Alternatively, they can contribute to any organisation registered with the government.
LHDN said those who make donations must obtain a receipt with an official stamp from the recipient. Those who make cash donations must also keep a record of their transactions.
“The public is urged to check the background of organisations to avoid being scammed,” it added in a statement.
LHDN’s announcement comes just days after the finance ministry said it had approved a tax deduction for contributions and donations “in cash and in kind” by individuals and corporates to the Covid-19 Fund and health ministry.
So far, some 1,796 people have tested positive for Covid-19 in the country.- FMT
